Sean Kimberlin

Lead RAC Mobile Servicing and Repair Technician

“I joined the RAC in 2003 after working as a master technician for major motor manufacturers including Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar and Renault. After nearly 20 years as an RAC roadside patrol in different roles, I moved into the mobile servicing and repairs division in 2023. I’ve always enjoyed solving difficult technical problems, and the mobile mechanic role gives me the opportunity to bring garage-quality servicing, diagnostics and repairs directly to customers at home or work.”

Sean's goal

“My goal is to make it easier and more convenient for customers to look after their cars – by bringing the garage to them. I help customers stay on the road by diagnosing and fixing problems as efficiently as possible, while supporting my team to deliver the same high standard. As lead mobile servicing and repair technician for the eastern region, I manage a team of 22 mobile mechanics and help them take on complex jobs with confidence. Whether it’s a seized injector, a snapped bolt or a difficult diagnostic issue, I want customers to feel they’re in experienced, capable hands.”

Sean commenting on mobile servicing, diagnostics and complex repairs…

Mobile servicing and repairs is all about making car maintenance easier for drivers without compromising on quality. A mobile mechanic needs to be prepared for a wide range of jobs, from routine servicing and brake replacements to diagnostics and more difficult repairs that require experience, patience and the right tools.

Complex vehicle issues are often where experience really matters. Problems such as seized injectors, snapped bolts or spark plugs stuck in cylinder heads can quickly become bigger jobs if they’re not handled correctly. The priority is to diagnose the issue properly, use the right process and avoid causing further damage.

Regular servicing also plays an important role in preventing avoidable repairs. Checks on brakes, tyres, suspension, lights, fluids and the battery can help identify issues before they become safety concerns or lead to a breakdown. For customers, the benefit of a mobile mechanic is that this can all be done at home or work, with clear advice from a trusted and trained technician, saving them the hassle of trips to the garage .
