Rod Dennis

Motoring expert

“I have over ten years of experience in the automotive industry and twice that in communication. I’ve led on national road safety initiatives at the RAC. And I often give interviews across major networks such as the BBC, ITV, and Sky News. Before this, I ran campaigns for a wide range of organisations. This included National Grid, Frazer-Nash, Microtecnica (now UTC) and several UK Government departments."

Rod's goal

“I know how passionate so many of the nation's motorists are on topics that affect them every day. Whether that's bright headlights, the potholes they have to avoid when behind the wheel (or on their bikes), or dangerous driving that puts other road users at risk. My goal is to use data and research to represent drivers' views at the highest levels, in the UK media and in the government. On a more personal level, I take a keen interest in road safety. I want to help drivers stay informed, prepared, and protected on the road.”

Rod's experience

Senior Press and Policy Officer, RAC

In his current role, Rod looks after public relations and public affairs at the RAC. On a daily basis, this involves:

Analysing data and running research on motoring topics.
Crafting written and infographic content.
Taking this to both major UK media outlets and policymakers in Westminster and Whitehall.

This is all done with the aim of gaining media coverage and awareness in Government for a wide range of issues affecting drivers.

Sky NewsNew figures reveal 'incredibly dangerous' speeding - as driver clocked doing 122mph in 30mph zone

"Although this data is a snapshot, it shines a light on the incredibly dangerous actions of a few, that are putting law-abiding road users at serious risk.

"There is no place for the vastly excessive speeds that some people are prepared to drive. Speed is the leading cause of deaths on UK roads.

"We look forward to the government's forthcoming road safety strategy understanding what can be done to reduce such avoidable casualties on the UK's roads."

The Independent Calls to expand parking laws as drivers hit out at ‘serious problem’

"No pavement user should be forced into walking or wheeling into the road because of someone parking inconsiderately. A clear majority of drivers agree and want to see an end to needless pavement parking that causes accessibility problems, but when it comes to the solution, the jury is out.""

The BBCBusiest UK airports raise kiss-and-fly fees, says RAC

"Drivers are a captive audience and that's why we think airports are so keen on these sorts of fees. But honestly, £7 for a stop that could be no more than 10 minutes does seem a little steep. And the fact that these costs keep going up year after year I think is going to be a huge source of frustration for anyone dropping off a friend or loved one this summer."

ITV NewsQuarter of motorists affected by bright headlights have cut night driving, survey shows

"With the exception of potholes, few motoring topics seem to rouse as much interest among the nation’s drivers right now as bright headlights.

“What has gone from a mere frustration is now having a profound impact on people – whether that’s momentarily being blinded while driving or struggling to judge the speed or position of a vehicle ahead.

“The fact such a high proportion of people are also driving less at night – or wish they could – is remarkable and demonstrates the need for glare to be tackled."
