There are around 900-1,100 fuel stations spread out across the whole of Scotland – which roughly equates to around 8-9% of the UK’s total forecourts. This is based on the latest data from Fuels Industry UK.

Diesel and petrol are refined in different ways, and their prices are driven by different market conditions. Demand for diesel from sectors such as freight, logistics, and industry can increase costs, which is why diesel is often priced higher than unleaded petrol.

Supermarket forecourts are often able to keep fuel prices low thanks to their larger scale and lower margins. That said, independent filling stations can sometimes be just as competitive, or even cheaper, particularly in areas where several retailers are competing for customers.
