Google Maps now includes real-time fuel prices
Consumer Editor
Drivers across the UK can now get real-time petrol and diesel prices at forecourts on Google Maps for the first time.
According to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, comparing fuel prices can save car-owning households around £40 a year, at a time when the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is pushing up costs.
Users simply need to open the Google Maps app on their phone or visit Google Maps on a desktop or laptop and search for a nearby fuel station.
This announcement follows on from the Government’s Fuel Finder scheme, which Google will be using to source the data.
Launched in February, it has been compulsory for forecourts to report the price of their fuel within 30 minutes of it changing or risk a fine.
The CMA can take action where there is evidence that they are not complying with the law.
Fuel Finder now has data for around 99% of all fuel sold in the UK.

“Accessing the cheapest fuel should be simple, which is why it is a gamechanger for near real-time fuel prices to be shown on Google Maps for the first time in the UK, helping drivers to find the best deal and save money at the pump.”
Sarah-Jayne Williams, Director of Global Product Partnerships for Geo at Google, commented: “Integrating Fuel Finder data into Google Maps and Waze gives drivers visibility on nearby pump prices, helping drivers make intentional choices to help their budgets go further this winter.
