What our expert says

CDRSD-1990_Nick Mullender_100x100.jpg

Having a regular service keeps your engine in top condition. Oil deteriorates over time, making the engine less efficient and potentially causing wear on components. A service will also spot potential safety issues with brakes, suspension, and tyres.

Frequently asked questions about an oil change

Oil should typically be changed every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. For synthetic oil, it can last 10,000 to 15,000 miles. Check your vehicle’s manual for exact details.

Yes, you can change your oil if you have the tools and know-how. But, it’s often simpler and cleaner to let a pro handle it. Don’t forget to dispose of the old oil properly!

Skipping oil changes can cause engine parts to wear out faster, leading to overheating and damage. This can result in costly repairs.

An oil change typically takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

Adding oil can temporarily address low oil levels, but it doesn’t replace the need for a full oil change. Over time, oil becomes contaminated and loses its effectiveness, so it must be replaced.

Delaying oil changes can harm your engine and lower performance. Stick to the recommended schedule to keep things running smoothly.

Some car warranties cover oil changes, but this depends on the specific terms of your warranty. Check your warranty policy for details.

Oil changes are generally not covered by car insurance since they are routine maintenance.

Yes, leased cars need regular oil changes. Not maintaining them properly could lead to fees at the end of your lease.

Synthetic oil offers better performance, lasts longer, and protects your engine more, especially in extreme conditions. However, it costs more than regular oil.

To check your car’s oil level, remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it fully, then remove it again to see the oil level. The oil should be between the minimum and maximum marks on the dipstick.
