New police data has revealed a shocking rise in the number of speeding fines being issued across the UK.
Following a Freedom of Information (FOI) request by road technology specialist Ooono, analysis shows that fines have reach a four-year high.
West Yorkshire Police took the top spot (outside London) where drivers received 384,219 fines – a 13% year-over-year increase.
The capital issued a total of 778,600 tickets last year – with the sharp rise in the number of 20mph zones being a major factor.
Furthermore, 22 of the 24 police forces that responded stated that they had seen an increase in speeding in their area when comparing 2024 to 2025.
The FOI showed that only Warwickshire and Durham see a fall in speeding fines. However, interestingly, Warwickshire remained in one of the top five areas that have received a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN).

Speeding fines in the UK depend on how far over the limit a driver is caught.
For minor offences, police usually issue a fixed penalty of £100 and three penalty points or offer a speed awareness course instead of points.
More serious speeding offences go to court, where fines are based on income and fall into Band A, B or C, ranging from 50% to 175% of weekly earnings.
Drivers can also receive between three and six penalty points, or even a driving ban for the most extreme cases.
