More EV models now available for Electric Car Grant (ECG)

More electric cars have been confirmed to receive the UK Government's Electric Car Grant, bringing the total number of eligible EVs to 37. 

Continuing the drip feed of affordable models eligible for the grant, which discounts the car's list price by up to £3,750, new models from Skoda and Toyota have been added. 

The latest additions come after last week's confirmation of the first models to receive the maximum £3,750 discount. These are the Ford Puma Gen-E electric small SUV, and the e-Tourneo electric van-based MPV, which qualified for the ‘Band 1’ discount.

This is due to the low level of emissions produced in the manufacturing process of both cars, along with the overall sustainability standards and Science-Based Targets of Ford's European arm. 

Eligibility for the ECG also depends on factors such as the emissions output of the countries where the cars are built. More models will be announced in due course.  

The scheme is part of £650 million of funding aiming to make it cheaper and easier to buy or lease an electric car. It's available for eligible EVs that cost up to £37,000, supporting more affordable options.  

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said of the scheme: "We're delivering on our promise to make it easier and cheaper for families to go electric. 

"This is about backing drivers, putting money back into people's pockets and creating the jobs and growth that will drive Britain forward, delivering on our Plan for Change."

What are the cars eligible for the Electric Car Grant?
