IDP1949 is needed for:

Japan
Kampuchea
Korea (South)
Kuwait
Leeward Islands (Antigua, Dominica, Montserrat, St. Christopher, Nevis and Anguilla)
Macao
Pakistan
Philippines
Russia
Rwanda
Senegal
Surinam
Swaziland
Syria
Taiwan
Thailand
Ukraine
United Arab Emirates
Vietnam
Zaire

IDP1926 is needed for:

If the country you're travelling to isn't listed, you don't need an IDP.

Brazil, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan: contact the embassy or consulate to find out about the driving licence requirements.
Bermuda: visitors aren't allowed to drive.
Ethiopia: the IDP isn't recognised but you can get a temporary licence from the local authority when you present your valid UK licence.
China: you need to get a temporary driving permit when you arrive.
Iraq, Nigeria or Somalia: you need an IDP1926, rather than the more common IDP1949.
