The Ford Focus has been announced as the most scrapped car in the UK in 2024 – marking the eighth year in a row it has topped the list.
Scrapping a car is a legal way to remove the vehicle from the road by taking it to a facility.
Here are the top 10 most scrapped cars in the UK according to Scrap Car Comparison:
10 – Volkswagen Polo
Starting the list with 1.7% of all scrapped cars, the Volkswagen Polo is a compact, stylish hatchback known for its quality, reliability, and advanced features. Offering efficient fuel economy and a smooth driving experience, it appeals to a wide range of drivers.
9 – Peugeot 207
2% of all vehicles scrapped were from the small French hatchback, the Peugeot 207. Although there have been many variations over the years, they have always been popular with Brits.
8 – Mini Hatch (Cooper/One)
A British icon, the Mini Hatch represents 2.2% of cars scrapped. Steeped in history, there are a few different styles available – and remain a favourite for drivers of all ages.
7 – Vauxhall Zafira
The versatile compact MPV, the Vauxhall Zafira offers spacious seating for up to seven passengers – and accounted for 2.3% of scrapped cars. Despite their popularity, they have seen a rise in the number being scrapped in recent years due to safety concerns.
6 – Renault Clio
French supermini, the Renault Clio accounted for 2.5% of scrapped cars – remaining similar to the number that were destroyed in the previous 12-month period.
5 – Volkswagen Golf
Starting the top five is the Volkswagen Golf, with 2.5% of all scrapped cars – including its hatch, estate and other versions that are available to Brits. Like the rest of the top five, this car was incredibly popular with drivers since the turn of the century.
4 – Ford Fiesta
The first of two entries from Ford, the Fiesta accounted for 4.4% of scrapped cars. June 2023 saw the end of production for this historic vehicle, and due to its popularity, there will likely be many more scrapped in the years ahead.
3 – Vauxhall Corsa
Representing 4.8% of scrapped cars, the Vauxhall Corsa kicks off the top three. Due to Vauxhall’s popularity, the Corsa was a contributing factor to the manufacturer topping the list for most scrapped in the UK.
2 – Vauxhall Astra
The Vauxhall Astra has been a favourite for many Brits in recent decades, and represented 5.6% of all cars scrapped. Much like the Corsa, the Stellantis-owned brand will see many of its vehicles in these top 10 lists for years to come, due to their popularity.
1 – Ford Focus
And the most scrapped car in the UK in 2024 was the Ford Focus – accounting for 6.3% of all vehicles scrapped.
