Drivers now able to search for new home that comes with EV chargers
Drivers who are looking to move home are now able to search for available properties that comes with electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

Recent Zoopla analysis of all listings on its site in 2025 found that just 1.6% explicitly mention EV charging, while the latest figures from The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that one-in-four new car buyers is now going electric.

Further analysis of the data showed that the number of EVs registered is now up by over 34% compared to the same time last year – highlighting the need for more chargers across the UK.

A study by Vauxhall in collaboration with CENEX, the Low Carbon and Fuel Cells Centre of Excellence, revealed that only 19% of UK households requiring charging access live near a public charge point.

Now, the manufacturer and property website and app Zoopla have teamed up to allows buyers and renters to find the nearest on-street chargers to a property.

They will also be able to filter properties with available home-charging – and will be similar to other features that displays information about the nearest schools and train stations.

Vauxhall’s own research found that 40% of drivers believe that proximity to EV charging will be an influential factor when it comes to buying their next home.

A further 33% said that a lack of accessible EV charging would deter them from moving to a new property. That figure rises to 84% for current EV drivers.

Zoopla data shows that the average homeowners stay in their home for an average of 17 years – taking many current owners beyond the introduction of the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030.

Steve Catlin, Managing Director, Vauxhall, said: “Moving house is one of the biggest decisions most of us make in our lifetime, and anyone who’s done it knows how much effort can go into finding the perfect home.

“As EVs become an even more common sight on our roads, more and more people will be prioritising charging access when thinking about where to live.

“Whether charging at home or on-street, we hope the features we have worked with Zoopla to introduce go some way to make decisions around buying and renting a new home that little bit easier for millions across the country.”

The partnership between Vauxhall and Zoopla is part of Vauxhall’s Electric Streets of Britain campaign, and it is hoped that it will help the UK improve the EV infrastructure for drivers.

Daniel Copley, Consumer Expert at Zoopla, said: “Buyer requirements are constantly evolving as a result of factors like lifestyle changes and commuting patterns.

“By improving Zoopla’s search functionality, our aim is that we will empower more confident moving decisions, particularly for current and future EV owners.”
