Traffic warden tickets Prince Phillip’s royal Range Rover outside hospital

A Range Rover belonging to The Duke of Edinburgh’s royal protection officers was on the receiving end of an unlikely parking ticket – courtesy of a particularly daring traffic warden.

Prince Phillip, 99, has been in hospital since February 16 as a precaution after feeling unwell. He isn’t allowed any Royal visitors.

The 4x4 used by his aides was parked outside King VII’s Hospital in London, where it was issued with a fixed penalty notice by the diligent ticket officer. A witness said the fine was attached to the car’s windscreen after it was left on double yellow lines.

The protection officers had reportedly gone inside for “a couple of hours”, leaving the vehicle parked in the illegal spot. When they appeared again, one of the officers removed the ticket and the Range Rover was moved.

Buckingham Palace said Prince Philip was admitted to the private hospital in Beaumont Street, Marylebone in the evening of the 16th. His illness is not Covid-related.

He was driven to the hospital, but managed to walk in unaided.

Prince Philip was in the motoring news back in 2019 after his involvement in a car crash near the Queen’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

Eyewitnesses said the Duke’s Land Rover overturned during the collision and he was helped out of the vehicle. The driver of a Kia, also involved in the collision, suffered cuts, while its passenger sustained an arm injury.

Both drivers provided negative readings from breath tests, though the crash did lead to the Prince voluntarily giving up his licence, and sparked debate about whether older drivers should be restricted.
