Government launches fuel finder to help drivers find best prices
Consumer Editor
Drivers in the UK can now check fuel prices at every petrol station nationwide thanks to a new Government initiative designed to make costs more transparent.
The service, known as Fuel Finder, allows the public to compare prices easily by supplying real‑time data to third‑party apps and websites.
By giving people across the country, the ability to see where the cheapest fuel is available, the scheme aims to help households save money at a time when everyday costs are rising.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves has said that the scheme could help the average household save around £40 a year by encouraging more competitive pricing.
The service is open to anyone who wants to use the data in their own digital tools or platforms.

Fuel Finder provides a wide range of useful information. It includes the current pump prices for all fuel types at every petrol station, along with details about each forecourt such as its address, operator, and brand.
Users can also see what facilities are available on site and check opening hours.
Each price and site update is timestamped, and all changes are published within 30 minutes, ensuring the information remains accurate and up to date.
In response to the announcement, RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “We hope this is the start of the journey to cheaper fuel prices around the UK.
“The Government has set up this scheme with the intention of increasing competition among retailers to give drivers better value at the pumps.
“As a growing number of the country’s 8,300 forecourts submit their prices on a daily basis, drivers will be able to easily find the cheapest forecourts near them using their favoured app or sat nav."
