RAC Scan+ is designed solely to help fix breakdowns in modern cars.
Even though car manufacturers are continually looking to improve their vehicles, driver knowledge has not kept pace with modern technology.
As cars have become more reliant on computers, trying to work out why your vehicle has broken down has become increasingly difficult for most of us.
This is why RAC Breakdown Cover has equipped its 1,500 patrols with the very latest mobile technology in the form of rugged laptops to fix more vehicles at the roadside as quickly as possible. Broken down without cover? Call RAC on 03301598743.
How RAC Scan+ helps fix modern car breakdowns
Many modern cars are now equipped with a sophisticated electronic management system which takes care of every aspect of the car’s performance; even replacement batteries on modern vehicles require ‘coding’.
As vehicle systems become more complex, many drivers are struggling to maintain their cars properly. RAC Scan+ was developed to tackle this.
RAC Scan+ has been designed and developed with one of the world’s leading vehicle diagnostic software suppliers and tailored to achieve maximum results in the event of a breakdown. It is also linked to a technical information database for individual vehicles, helping to speed up roadside repairs.
Complementing the 500-plus tools each patrol van carries, our breakdown technicians are now able to carry out a repair by programming new parts which previously could only be done at a garage. This is achieved by the RAC Scan+ laptop simply plugging into the vehicle’s diagnostic port and analysing its computer systems.
With RAC Scan+ our Breakdown Cover can address a number of additional issues at the roadside, including:
- Diesel particulate filter regeneration – if a vehicle suffers a breakdown due to its diesel particulate filter, a technician can use RAC Scan+ to regenerate it at the roadside, potentially saving you time and money
- Fitting some new parts and batteries – when installing some new parts and batteries, the vehicle’s computer system has to be re-configured so that the part functions correctly or in the case of a battery all the vehicle’s functions work correctly
- Remote access to the RAC technical department – should an RAC patrol want additional input about a vehicle fault, RAC Scan+ can remotely connect to the technical department at our HQ
