According to the German manufacturer, have revealed that will be using ‘the familiar designations of combustion-engine models to its all-electric ID. Family’.
As a part of the plans, the first model to be launched under the new strategy will be the ID. Polo1 from 2026.
The wider concept will be known as the ID. 2all.
Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, Head of the Brand Group Core and member of the Group Board of Management: “Our model names are firmly anchored in people’s minds.
“They stand for a strong brand and embody characteristics such as quality, timeless design and technologies for all.
“That’s why we’re moving our well-known names into the future. The ID. Polo is just the beginning.”
The ID. 2all strategy will transfer more established names to the electric portfolio with each new model generation.
Volkswagen stated that the move means that customers can more easily navigate the range of vehicles.
The designation ID. stands for advanced technologies and electric mobility.

The iconic VW Polo is being launched as an electric vehicle (EV), as part of the 50th anniversary of it first being available to customers.
The camouflaged ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI will make their first public appearance at the IAA MOBILITY show in Munich, Germany from the 8th to 14th of September.
Volkswagen will also unveil the concept vehicle for an electric compact SUV, the new ID. CROSS.
The plan is that it will be launched at the end of 2026 as the electric counterpart to the T-Cross.
Leadership at the company have stated that this move to electric for its historic models is due to customer feedback as part of a new era for Volkswagen.
