today on my way home from work, my Ford Fiesta flame clutch just stopped working! A car stopped Infront of me so I went to put my foot down on the clutch and break, as I put my foot on the clutch it clicked and became loose! There was no tension on it or anything it was just smoothly moving up and down! I wasn't able to change gear at all untill I stopped!
I haven't returned to my vehicle yet to try and use it but does anyone know what the problem might be?
As mentioned before, almost certainly the plastic clutch master cylinder rod has popped off the pedal pin. Very bad design. If you have a look you should be easily able to pop it back on but once they've come off, they keep on coming off. Before these devices came on the market, I used to drill a 1/8" hole in the pedal pin, fit a washer and then use a split pin to stop it coming off. Some do it, some don't - I think it only needs the pedal pin to bend by a couple of degrees for the rod to pop off. See picture below to see what I mean.
To prevent it happening again, forget the cable tie, I'd suggest getting one or other of the devices below. The clips you can buy over the counter at any Ford dealer but get two as one never seems to stay on. An easy DIY fix even for the most mechanically incompetent.
