Fiesta Mk3 Rear Silencer Keeps Falling Off!

    Hey,

I was hoping someone out there can help me out. Ok, my car is a Fiesta MK3, 1994, 1.1.

The rear silencer (backbox of exhaust) keeps falling off, it is attached using a clamp. The rear silencer is only attached at the end of the exhaust, when it does come off, the engine sounds exactly the same, it doesnt make it louder or anything. At the moment, im having trouble fitting it back onto the exhaust, as the pipe has now bent slightly, so it will not fit over in into the exhaust pipe.

So I was wondering, as it doesnt actually change the loudness of the engine etc like its supposed to do, can I just leave it off? Then add just a simply straight pipe from the exaust to the end of the car, so the emissions dont come out in the middle of my car.

    Thanks

It should be attached to the body on rubber exhaust hangers.

I would not advise leaving it off. You may not notice the noise difference in the car or just by revving it at the roadside, but when driving under load, it would be noticeable. There is obviously a problem if it keeps falling off, I would suggest a new clamp and correct tightneing of it. As to the damage, if you remove the box, you should be able to 'dress' it back into shape for re-fitting. If not, take it to an exhaust centre. It will certainly be cheaper than the cost of a Rectification Notice or fine.
