Sponge *inside* headlamp 🤔
-
This seems a bit random….. but I recently took my VW Polo to Halfords for a replacement headlamp bulb. Chatting away with the technician, when he says “what’s in here?!”….. inside the shell on the lamp was a dark ball shaped sponge wrapped in a VW branded plastic bag type thing……. He said he hadn’t seen anything like it, and obviously neither have I! He changed the bulb and the car is fine even with the weird sponge now removed (and now living in my boot, just in case!). Just wondered if anyone knows why it was in there and what it was doing…. Also if I need to put it back in 🙈

A sponge?
All i can think of is that there was a loose connection someone was trying to bodge, or the last person to replace the headlight got distracted and left something in there... goodness knowsThanks,

What should you do after a collision? 🤔 -
@XamSquishy"Technician" is interesting. The last time I got a bulb at Halfords it was installed by a spotty school-leaver who then went back to his main job of stacking shelves.

I found lots of bits of sponge in cars over the years. Some were for sound deadening, some for keeping stuff from getting into open-ended door sills, and some for reducing vibration from sensitive areas. I might go for yours being to reduce vibration, possibly to protect the bulb. Only a guess.

@Beelzebub Hahaha 🤣 . . . I did use the term somewhat loosely. The young lad was great though I have to say :)
