citroen dispatch problem

  • dispatch's Avatar
hi guys just new to the forum....

    recently bought a dispatch 2005 1.9d.

sounded like there was a blow out on exhaust so took it to exhaust centre and cost me £350 for full exhaust set-up...after that the sound is still there but seems to be coming from under the bonnet at the air box..could this be the air flow meter? it also uses a lot of fuel and has got bad acceleration..when sitting idleing it would rev up on its own.

does all these issues sound like a air flow meter problem? if yes is there A way to test the air flow meter?

    any help appreciated.....thanks

Has it had a timing belt recently?
Have you checked all the pipes around the engine for leaks?
Without specialist tools you can't test the airflow meter. If the engine will still run, you can disconnect it but will bring the engine management light on.

Is there an air filter in the filter housing or is it chocked up?

hi dont know if it's had timing belt done...theres 90k on clock..when shud the timing belt be done?

doesnt seem to be any leaks but looks to be air in one of the fuel pipes as you can see air bubbles in the pipe..would this be a concern?
    thanks

It was due at 80,000 miles for a timing belt.
The air in the fuel pipe is ok if it is the return pipe from the injectors but if its from the tank/filter would indicate a leak. An air leak can cause the revs to go up.

    thanks for the replys..
another problem with it is first thing in morning it will start first time but will die out after about 4 seconds even even if you hold rev..

it then takes about another 3-4 times before it will start...but after that it will start first time every time all day until the next morn....its as if its not getting fuel....

does all these problems add-up and seem like one problem...thanks

    sore on fuel
starts first time in morn...but dies out then starts 3-4 times after..
    revs up by itself sometimes..
blow out like noise from round airbox-airflow meter..
    air bubbles in fuel pipe..

    thanks

Sounds like a small air leak allowing the fuel to drain back to the tank. There will be enough to get it started still in the pump but then it needs to pull the fuel back up again so it won't start for a few times.
Check the small rubber pipes on the injectors are ok, and the fuel filter is a likely culprit. There are 3 different types fitted on this engine and when you get a new filter there is a rubber ring with it. This may not have been changed or the housing cover is not fitted properly. If yours has the oval shaped housing it is held by a plastic clamp. Not always easy to fit first time. The round housing has a ring that screws it down and this too can seem to be fitted ok. Worth checking. Plus all fuel pipe connections are pushed on fully, if in doubt pull off, lubricate and push on till they 'click'.

How do you remove the stereo on a 2005 dispatch if you don’t have the tool for it

The symptoms you describe for the poor running could be due to a plugged fuel filter.
Any idea when it was last changed?
