Insurance write off cat b not recorded by insurance company ???
-
I got into an accident in november 2016, my bike was written off as a category B which im currently trying to dispute. I have had my payout for the vehicle in January 2017, but done numerous hpi checks including one today and the insurers havent informed dvla that its a write off and that its a cat b. I was looking to sell my vehicle because ive had advice off friends and a garage that i can sell it, but what are my rights around this area??

If it's a cat be, it is supposed to be scrapped. See here: https://www.autocheck.co.uk/Help/Use...riesOfWriteOff

Not according to the RAC website: http://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/kn...nce-write-off/
But as always Loony knows better. -
Ok it looks like I'm wrong.
You use to be able but it appears that's all changed now since the last changes back in September or October 2015 I think.
Before that you could but now it appears the dvla will not issue a v5.
So there will be cat b cars out there from before. -
To be fair, I thought so too - after a repair and a submission to a full inspection. I tried to find recent information from reliable sources as always.

Regardless of the category, the OP says he has had his payout. Doesn't that mean the bike is now the property of the insurer?

Yes, unless they have done a deal. I am not sure if they can with a cat B now since it is supposed to be scrapped. The DVLA would expect to see a certificate of scrappage in due course.
The point of the categories is that many cars are "written off" because they are deemed to be not worth repairing. These are the Cat C/D ones. It is often possible for these to be repaired economically and safely, using second hand parts etc. Some cars are considered too badly damaged to be safely returned to the road. These are the Cat A/B ones.
