i'll try this post again...in the right section this time

basically, im 23 and looking at buying my first real car. By real I mean car i have paid for myself, not just insured on parents cars.

Anyway...thanks to me being stupid with credit cards when I was 18-20 I have a really nasty credit history. Im talking 2 or 3 defaults from card companies.

What I need help with is...I know what car I want to buy and i've found one at a local garage. (Its a 2005 BMW 320CI 2.2L M-Sport - and yes, i can get insured on it) and obviously theres no way im going to get the finance for it, despite being able to comfortably afford the monthly payments, my past credit history means the finance company isn't going to allow my acceptance.

I have however, a willing family member who has offered to get the finance in their name, and for me to pay into their account monthly to pay for the car.

What I want to know is, can I still be the registered owner/keeper of the vehicle if the finance is in someone elses name or will the car have to be in their name?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I couldn't find any other more suitable.

    Regards.

slipknotmaggot, have you tried getting finance in your own name with the family member acting as a guarantor. Even with a bad credit history banks will lend you the money because in case of default in payment, they will hold the guarantor liable for any outstanding debt.

Why can't you save up for a car? If you can easily afford the monthly repayments on this car then put away money into an account every month until you save up enough to buy a car.

You would have thought that past experience with debt would have taught you a lesson!

    Because I want it ASAP.

Please just stick to the question in hand rather than dishing out money advice that I dont need thanks. Its already sorted out I just need to know whether the car can be in my name.

Can the finance be in someone elses name to the owner/keeper or not?

    interesting.

I had read about guarantors when I rented a house but didn't know the same applied to finance.

    Interesting info, thanks mate.

If you read his other thread about his breakdowns, you will see that tantrums are his thing. Part of his problem may be the extreme arrogance that a little kiddie has coming on to the forum and shouting for attention and telling you to stick to the question. Just wonder if the user name may hold a clue in the 'slipknot' part.... Wouldn't want to be very rude and suggest that the second part is far more suitable for such a spoilt litle brat. :p:p:p

    wow...the internet offends you+++ doesn't it?

arrogance? by simply asking to stick to a thread topic rather than waste everybodies time digressing to preaching to me about my personal finances. how?

spoilt? working 40+ hours a week and buying myself a decent car? no...spoilt would be getting someone to buy it for me. Maybe its the fact i mentioned its a BMW thats made you jump to that conclusion.

And I cant see how what music I listen to has anything to do with anything.

And I actually said thankyou to someone on the thread for their helpful answer to this quesion. In my post about breakdowns I merely gave details of my experience with the RAC...to which I was met with a smartarse answer...which to be fair is typical of some characters on most forums. I cant see you shouting about that guy being rude.

Think what you like though, you dont affect my life in any way...and if I affect yours, you need to leave the forum, and indeed the computer a little bit more.

Yea! That's what I thought when I read it, as that would really help you get your credit card back on track;)

yep. Sounds like a good plan. I could really do with getting my credit back on track as i'll be looking at a mortgage within the near(ish) future too.

Would you lend to someone like this? Here is a right know-it-all who comes on to the RAC's own forum to slag them off in a very unfair way (yes, Big End did get it right, 'the RAC is a breakdown service, not his mum' - liked that a lot) even though he hasn't paid a penny of his own money (well, suppose he won't have much being in debt) for breakdown cover, then asks everyone for help. The only reson you say it is a smartarse answer to Patrols Wife is that you are so wrapped up with yourself, you couldn't possibly see the truth in what she says.
Sorry if it may cause you another tantrum sonny, but no, I won't be leaving. Do you really think I'd take any advice from you after your responses on here?
If you wait until early January you may just be able to afford a nice pedal car from Toys-R-Us in the sales.

just before you get too far on your high horse there. I said I was on my dads policy...not I didnt pay a penny for it so get your facts straight there. And seen as I do pay half of the annual subscription im entitled to my opinion having used the service so many times. And my opinion is that they aren't particularly interested in anything apart from fixing and running. Would you like being in the middle of a coutry road in the lakes 4 miles away from your car without a mobile phone signal and have someone from a service you are paying for that they will fix the car if you make your own way back to it, when the van in fact drove right past the camp site I was at to get to the car.

And about the patrol man who completely missed a rust hole in the fuel line then left me stranded yet again claiming I had just ran out of petrol and I wasn't covered for that.

A: I didnt particularly slag them off at all...just gave my experiences

and B: I cant see how you can deem it as being unfair. Its based on a true experience, and looking around, im not the only one unhappy with the service.

I wont be dishing out any advice here so dont worry about that. My questions have been answered. I dont plan on staying here.

And its quite simple really. If you dont like me. stay away from my questions. You make me laugh getting so worked up about something that was:

    A: posted on the internet

and B: not directed at you in ANY way.

Maybe its not me who needs to buy the kiddy toy car after all eh?

But hey, if chasing me around arguing makes you feel the big man then be my guest. As I have said before, I'll switch my PC off at the end of it and you haven't affected my life in the slightest.

Wakefield aint far from me at the end of the day and im buying my BM from a garage in bradford. Maybe i could drop in and give you a wave when I buy my new "kiddy" car to fuel your obvious inferiority complex. ;)

It's not my business as the problem doesn't affect me, but I can't help commenting on this.

It astonishes me how sometimes the slightest bit of polite disagreement with another poster can have a user being publicly warned or even banned by a moderator...yet here one user has asked a harmless, well-intended question and has ended up being unjustly patronised and insulted by several other users and it is completely ignored.

    Insurance

If you don't mind me asking, how much is the insurance? I was going to give one of my cars to my daughter until I found out how much it would cost for her to insure a 1.8 Vectra!!!
