I have an 04 Ford Focus CMax 1.8 Tdci. It has a diesel engine. I have recently noticed a strong smell of diesel coming from the car. You can smell it inside and outside the car. I've lifted the bonnet and there is a thin layer of diesel on the engine, mostly around one of what I assume are the spark plugs and leads.(Fuel Injectors?) Coupled with the diesel spotting on the driveway under the engine I can only assume the leak is coming from the engine, not the fuel tank.
I've just taken it for a long drive (2 hours) mostly motorway. It performs OK at cruising speed but when I came off the motorway and onto an A road there is virtually no acceleration when you hit 3000rpm. (An Eddie Stobart Lorry overtook me for Gods sake!:o)
Can anyone suggest what the leak is likely to be and whether the leak and the lack of power are linked. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
