Focus '03Tdci Start problems

  • monty111's Avatar
Hi all, my 2003 1.8tdci was struggling to start as the winter rolled in, originally just from cold but got progressively worse until feb. Then when running if the clutch was depressed the revs would fluctuate between 500 & 900rpm. Got to the stage it was taking over 10 mins to start but once running had no noticable power loss or roughness through the rev range. Engine then siglently died as i approached a junction. The car had only done 2000miles since service and cam belt change (100K) - Glow plugs check out fine so wondering if these symtoms fit a blocked fuel filter? Anyone else had similar problems???

    Thanks, Monty

Unfortunately, more likely to be the fuel pump. There are a lot of posts by unhappy Ford owners on here about these pumps.
But before you go out and buy one (expensive) have a diagnostic check done. There is every likelihood a scanner will find the problem.
