Stalling, not restarting. Then restarting

Hi, I have a 2008 Ford Focus 1.6 tdci, when I'm driving, intermittently the car seems like it's mis firing, as if I'm lifting and putting my foot on the accelerator constantly. Then yesterday it started to do it and lost all power from the accelerator, literally had my foot to the floor and nothing, then it just stallled. Tried to restart it, just turned over. Left it 10 minutes, it started and drove fine. I've had an air meter changed as it was doing this before, worked fine for 3 months, recently had an air leak in an injector but that's been fixed. Had the battery replaced as the old one was knackered. I've read it could be the egr valve, but when out through diagnostics there is no error code. What's wrong with it?

Fault codes are not the way to do diagnostics. The car needs to be connected to a quality diagnostic tool and then all the various sensor readings checked to see what is within and what is without the limits. Simply reading fault codes is a waste of your money and time.
A partial blockage in the exhaust i.e the diesel particulate filter (DPF) could cause this but there are many possibles.
These engines are very prone to dirty fuel filters causing problems so that is a good place to start and have it replaced by a quality item, not a cheap eBay part. The garage diagnosing your car should be looking for fuel pressure at start up (cranking pressure), the injector readings and ensuring the inlet manifold and air flap valve (throttle) are clean and working properly, that the DPF is not saturated i.e. blocked, among many other parts.
If no joy from the garage you have been using, find your nearest Bosch Service Centre.

They did a diagnostics test today, and it has come back with an exhaust problem. They are saying it's the EGR valve that's not working properly. Do I need to get a second opinion or could this be causing all this trouble?

If you are not sure then tell them they can replace it but if it does not fix the fault then you wont pay. That will tell you how sure they are.
It could be the EGR valve as they do give problems but it could just be full of black carbon build up. If there is a DPF and this is partially blocked then the EGR valve will not be working. If you do a lot of town driving then the soot build up may be the problem.
If you could post the actual fault code it might narrow it down but is not conclusive. e.g. P0400, or P0401 or P0405 and so on.
