Astra MK4 SRI 1.8 holding back.

  • davemc's Avatar
    Evening,

Have a couple of problems with Mk4 Astra. The car holds back at about 3 - 4000 rpm in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. There is no warning lights on dashboard. The car has just had new fuel filter and had a fuel system cleaner completed. Throttle body has been also been cleaned. Still have the same problems.

Ny ideas ? I was told there is pointless plugging the car into computer.

    Can anyone help please ?

    Many thanks

Need to know the engine code. X18XE1 or Z18XE?

You WILL need to put it on a diagnostic tool. Why someone told you not to, I don't understand. Fault codes can be logged without bringing on the engine management light.
In the tool is a live data menu and you can see the components and their readings. From these readings it is usually possible to find most faults. You need to know what the EGR valve feedback voltage is as this is critical. Also, when driving the car you will see what the airflow sensor is doing when the problem starts. Another check is the short term fuel trim (STFT) which will show if the mixture is correct and that the airflow sensor is reading correctly, or if the fuel mixture is too lean or too rich. Without this sort of info you will be guessing at what part is faulty.
XE is not an engine code.
