I cannot feel any difference in the brakes when I press them, nor can my partner & am wondering if I do really need new pads & discs. The MOT is due soon so was hoping to resolve it beforehand if need be. Does a warning light come on? Or maybe I should pop to Kwikfit for one of their brake checks?
Peugeot Brake Pads / Discs

I have a Peugeot 207, about three months ago it was at a peugeot dealership for some maintenance works, the technician / mechanic mentioned that I would shortly need brake pads & discs.

He means that the disk thickness is at minimum and the brake pads have worn to the point where they will need changing.
With the harder friction materials they use now, Brake disk's will only last for 2 set's of brake pads before reaching minimum thickness.
Did he say how many mm's of friction material is left on the pads? -
i would get a couple or even three quotes, then have your mot, see if it fails on breaks, ask them for a quote, then get the job done at the one your happiest with
most garages/mot test stations are looking for work, if they can get you to get something done, the manager and fitter get a bonus

If it fails though don't you have to have it repaired at the garage you have MOT at or pay for a re-test?

It cannot fail the MOT for the brakes being worn, They might give you an advisory that they need changing soon but, As long as they function correctly then it will be OK for MOT.

Ah so when I have MOT done I need to ask what is advisory & what needs doing in order for it to pass MOT
-
if it fails, they will tell you why it has failed, and if it has any advisories,(advisories: may need to be repaired/replaced for your next mot)

No, You can take it to a garage of your choice or repair it yourself. The only time you can't do that is if they say that in their opinion it would be unsafe to drive (in which case it would have to be transported rather than driven).
Do note that if it fails an MOT then you are only legally allowed to drive to/from MOT station or a Garage which is going to carry out repairs.
