Ford Transit Minibus Engine problems

    Transit Minibus
    52 plate
    2ltr diesel engine type 125 t280

We have had problems for the last 2 years where the vehicle would cut out on occasions and we would have to restart it to go back to normal driving again. It has been in a ford main dealer twice and has had injectors changed each time as we have been told we have had fuel contamination, water in the fuel. When they have done this it runs fine for a couple of months then we get same problems again. We have took it in again and they say the pipes need cleaning as there is water in fuel again. they have told us we have no leaks as to where the water can get into the system, so we can not understand why we keep getting the same problem. It seems to happen more often when you are accelerating and can happen upto 20 times in an hour. On other days you can drive it and it will not cut out at all. Is there any reason why there would be water in fuel or could it be another fault. We have spent thousands of pounds in last couple of years and have had no real joy.
    thanks

    fuel problems

hi i had that on a transit once went out to it 5 times in the end i dropped the fuel tank and found rag in there as you are driving it sucks up the rag and blocks of the fuel. once it cuts out the rag drops down leaving you able to start it again is the fuel filter on correct because they can cause a problem :)
also having water in the fuel system will not make it stop

a certain amount of water will always collect as it is formed when the diesel is made, thats the reason for the drain plugs on the filters, otherwise it can only be poor diesel or an ill fitting filler cap or filler neck. As the previous reply says I don't think that the water would give the symptons you describe.

Has the vehicle been scanned for fault codes/had the live data checked??

It has always been to a ford main dealer and we just go with what they have been saying in the past. Now this is the 3rd time they want us to change the injectors in the space of 2 years. They have always said contaminated fuel. We have had the tank cleaned the pipes new filters and the injectors. It has made a difference for a couple of months and then back to the same. Would it have anything to do with the fuel pump or anything else. When it drives it drives very well it is very annoying and we would appreciate anymore help.

Only a thought, but I have known diesels with similar probs because of breather pipes blocking causing vacuuming at the tank. Haven't seen it on a Transit, but may be worth checking.

Surely if it has had the wrong fuel in then the injector pump itself could have a problem-is there any swarf in the fuel filter?? EDIT just reread your post it is suspected water contamination-but has the vehicle ever been missfueled??

Vehicle has never been misfueled. We have had the vehicle 4 years now. When we took it to Ford garage last month, they said they need it for 2 days as there is a fuel blockage and they need to clean all the pipes and fuel tank.
This is what has happened in the past. They get the vehicle do what they say and then say the injectors are contaminated and need changing. We then end up with a bill near on £2000 and 3 months down the line we get the same problem. If there is water getting in the fuel there must be a leak somewhere, All we get told is no leak just dodgy fuel. I have 18 vehicles and this is the only vehicle that has had problems like this.
