Clio Stop message

Clio 1.2 16V. Start up engine. Message comes up oil OK. Start driving and after engine speed exceeds 2000RPM approx oil can light comes on and "stop" lights on dash.
Engine oil level OK, lots of oil splashing around in cam box, so sounds of lack of oil.

Any idea what the problem is?
I suspect oil level sensor. Where is it fitted?

You could be right but does it have a level sensor fitted? Would be either at the bottom of the dipstick tube or bolted into the sump directly.
What about the oil pressure switch? A cheap and simple replacement might be first job.
    Possibly a blocked oil filter?

There is a "fitting" screwed verticaly into crankcase lower flange slightly to the left of the dip stick with rectangular electrical connection. I did disconnect this plug and simptoms did not change.
Never thought of the oil pressure switch. How do they work? do they have a diaphragm that could start to leak hence its time related from working to not working correctly.
Oil and filter replaced less than 1000 miles ago.
I assume the oil pressure switch is mounted just above dip stick with axis horizontal.

Thanks for your info so far.

You have found the level sensor.
Oil pressure switch is a simple hexagonal unit with a wire to it that screws into the block, usually. They cost a tenner or less so its a cheap option to try first.
You can get them from motor factors. The level sensor may be £70 or more probably only available from Renault.

Found it. Its behind the engine screwed into the oil filter block. The one I thought it was is the Knock sensor.
I disconnected the wire and the fault goes away. So you are correct its the oil pressure switch.
    Will get a new one.
Pig of a job without a car lift or a pit!

    Thanks for your help
