Rover 200 mot failure

  • basil's Avatar
took my rover 200 for mot last year after having cat replaced, and it failed on emissions. took it back to the garage that fitted the cat and they replaced it, it then passed the mot.
This year, it has failed again on the same thing
    fast idle test
    speed 2713 pass
    CO 0.48 fail
    HC 76 pass
    Lambda 1.01 pass

    2nd fast idle test
    speed 2656 pass
    CO 0.59 fail
    HC 63 pass
    Lambda 1.01 pass

    Natural idle test

    speed 870 pass
    CO 0.50 pass

does anyone know what this could be down to?

    Yes!!!
A very poor quality cat
New rules came into force on 1st June this year to stop dodgy cheap cats being sold in the EEC.
Tell the garage to fit a proper quality one - yours will have 12 months warranty so it won't cost you anything.
And get down on your knees and make sure a nice shiny part is actually fitted

I can't print it any clearer. THE CAT HAS FAILED!!!!!!!!!
Its been on under a year so take it back under warranty. It should last 5 years.

Am I missing something here? MrDanno, Rolebama any suggestions?

Basil: What are you on, and can I have some please?
You came on a free Forum to ask for advice and that advice was given freely by someone who so obviously knows what he is talking about, and there was never any doubt as to your problem. After being told twice categorically what needed doing to your car, you post that insulting piece above: 'Hate to say it but you are right.' and 'Funny enought it passed after that.'
How insulting did you intend to be? Such ingratitude.

To be honest Rolebama, I do wonder why people come here to ask questions when they do not bother listening to the answers they are given. There was one last week which kept posting the same question in new threads "what is wrong with my car." and complained about response times even though I had replied to his first post within an hour with "you need a diagnostic check" Obviously he did not agree with my reply so kept posting the same question countless times hoping that someone was going to be able to tell him exactly what was wrong even though there is countless things that could light up the MIL.

If there is one person on this forum that knows his cars - it's Hometune.

I wasnt being funny at all! and i did take the advice!
when i said 'funny enough it passed after that'
i was meaning the garage had fobed me off yet again!
I havent got a clue about cars and the garage were telling me different things!
And the first bit was sarcasm because i didnt do what you advised, so before you go throwing judgements get the full facts first!

It is your responsibility to write posts that make sense. Yours came across as insulting, not sarcastic, and my interpretation was based on what had previously been written. If you don't write 'the full facts', I am not aware of any mind-readers using this Forum.
