Problems with Ford Fiesta MK6 - Juddering and Chugging

  • KatePocket's Avatar
I'm beginning to take disliking to my fiesta now...i am just having problem after problem and it's going to end up costing me an absolute fortune!!

    I have a 1.4 Fiesta Flame, mk6 05 plates.
I recently had my o2 sensor replaced, as engine warning light was on constantly, and fuel consumption was appauling.

I'm driving to work this morning, and every time i am stopped the car is really juddering when i have it in first, the gears seems really stiff and when i set off from stationery it's really struggling to set off, as if i'm not giving enough gas or i'm in second (i'm not...!!) to me that would all suggest that something isn't right with my clutch? It's got progressively worse on my journey in and now i'm worried that i won't make it home. Anyone know what this problem is/what i can do?
It's been suggested that this could be a problem with the new sensor?

    I'd really appreciate any help!
    Thanks
    thanks!

Was the new lambda sensor a genuine ford unit? If not it could be the cause of your problems.

Or it could be the coil thats failing, causing misfiring which the lambda (oxygen) sensor has detected and been changed for no reason as it was doing its job correctly.
The diagnostic should have found this. If the fault code said the system was too lean or too rich, uninformed garages change the sensor without checking it properly in the live data (or datalogger in Fords) to see what it is ACTUALLY reading.
Coils are a weak part of this car just like the Focus.

I am almost certain that it is a genuine ford part, as the mechanic who has replaced it is incredibly reliable and trustworthy, i never thought to ask though.

When i had the engine warning light diagnoised it said that it was a fault on the lambda.

Would it be possible to find out the fault code number(s) and fault description? This would help a lot.

    I will investigate.

It has now started to make a tapping noise, which is louder when my foot is on the clutch. By listening it sounds like it is coming from near the exhaust, but its hard to say exactly.

I haven't managed to get hold of the other mechanic who did the diagnostics on it before, however my normal mechanic has had a look at it today and he says that it could be a water leak, as the car is getting really hot. He's filled up the water and said he used a lot. He said it probably needs to go on the diagnostic computer again, but im really reluctant to use the guy i used before because he charged me an absolute fortune!!!
    any ideas with this knowledge...!?

Its impossible to diagnose noises from engines over the net!
But, the loss of water may or may not be connected. If there was a head gasket leak it could account for the loss of power/juddering etc as well as overheating. I think you need to have the cooling system checked and ensure the radiator cooling fan comes on when the engine gets hot. Are there any signs of leaks around the engine or radiator or damp patches on the ground below the car?

Yeah, there was a damp patch last night, and this morning.
Someone has suggested i call otu recovery - as i have breakdown cover, therefore this will be free so it can get diagnosed before going to a garage - this is my problem, everywhere i have taken it to get diagnosed i've been ripped off so many times, or else i would just take it into the garage!
