Peugeot 206 speedo not working

  • bonnybrook's Avatar
I had my car in for MOT and sure speedo was working fine (must have been to pass) anyway since the garage had it's now not working.

Any idea what the fault is? I suspect it's not cable driven these days and an electronic fault.

If I get a replacement second hand will the mileage need re-calibrating.

    It's a '99 1.1LX

hi, yeah i dont know if it's cable or electronic either, but if it's electronic you should be able to change the sensor at the gear box end, buying a new one will probably be stupid money, if they still make it, your best bet is a second hand one on ebay

Speedo is NOT part of the MoT test ;)
The probable fault is the speed sensor in the gearbox and is quite easy to replace. If you remove the air filter housing completely, you will see a plug to a unit on the top of the gearbox at the back.

    Thanks for the replys.

Is it possible this got knocked out whilst it was being serviced or more likely a failure?

it's always possible that it got knocked, but it might just be a coincidence, but when i was younger nearly everytime my car went into the dealers for something to be fixed, i would get it back with something else needing adjustment, fixing or missing,
if you know something about what your looking for, take a look under the bonnet, make sure the engine is turned off, and take a look to see if you can spot something loose or broken with wire's attached to it, i assuming that you know which bit the gear box is, :D

I'll see if I can spot it. It's the wifes car - I don't usually touch it, mines a Landy and I know that inside out!
