1.8i 1999 idling between 1 and 2.. sometimes it idles ok....... if im stoped at a light itl someitmes rev just below 2 and if i put it in gear 1 and get the biting ppoint itl knock down below 1 and if i let go itl go back to a higher rev... how come? any help is appreciated thanks

A lot of high idle revs is caused by air leaks. Check all the inlet manifold and vacuum pipes and breathers around the engine for splits/holes/insecurity etc.
Possibly throttle position switch. Simply disconnect and see if revs drop.
