Dear jerrygrant, I 'moan' about the RAC220 satnav because I bought a product, branded RAC, boxed RAC and offered, (as a bonus), a discount off my next RAC membership renewal.
Yes I could lie down and submit by buying another product produced by one of the companies you mention and throwing this one away, but the fact is I didn't and I won't. I paid top whack for an RAC branded item. Had it been branded Nu-Tool, then is a different kettle of fish, it isn't and I would not have bought it.
I wonder if so many of the items would have sold had they worn the logo Nu-Tool?
The RAC is doing nothing about this and I will not lay down. Since making a call and placing postings on this forum, only once have I established the truth that because there are not enough enquiries, they may not produce updated maps for the unit, but they will for the cheaper RAC branded items. That is disgusting customer support. Made even worse by the fact that some users are RAC members and have been for many years.
I found this thread by 'googling' rac 220 satnav before buying it. Not 'Nu-tool satnav'. As a result of that, I look at it that others may do the same before making a branded RAC satnav purchase and that they will find out that it may be a wise move to do just as you have done rather than waste any money on an RAC branded item.
The more 'moans', the better, or do you disagree?
I still wait to see if our friend will pursue action against them, I have to say, it is something I am considering via Trading Standards against the RAC, certainly not against Nu Tool. No where in my RAC branded handbook does it say 'ring Nu Tool for help'.
I accept that in the handbook it clearly states on page 23 that the unit is made UNDER LICENCE from RAC Motoring Services by Road Com which is a trading name of Nu Tool. For me, the RAC cannot simply wash their hands of any involvement in this.
I hope this explains why I and others continue to 'moan'. I hope it makes the RAC administrators aware that they do have very annoyed customers on their hands and they need to do something rather than speak hot air and print nice words. Small claims action does not cost a lot. I have done it before and I am not scared of doing it again. I would rather they treat their customers correctly before such action is taken and not try to 'bat' the responsibility to someone else.
One final question, if this has nothing to do with the RAC, why is it posted on the RAC website under the RAC forum
Enough said?
