Trailers and the Law

Can anyone tell me what is the law regarding a VED while the vehicle is on a trailer, I have received a ticket on a car for not displaying a valid tax disc however the vehicle in question was on a trailer, as much as I protest the authorities are not relenting...

Is the trailer attached to another vehicle or is it sat at the roadside on its own with your car on top? Does the ticket expressly state for not displaying an excise licence or some other offence?

Any car needs to display a valid disc unless it has a SORN ( statutary off road notice) even if it parked on your own drive this needs to be done or you will get a fine.

I suggest you check with VOSA, but I believe that to carry a vehicle not showing a VED, you need an Operator's License (or whatever they call it today). You may also be required to have a Certificate of Competency. If you have neither of these, you may be better off paying up, as the penalties for not having either could be more severe than not having a valid VED.
