Hi,

I'm in the market for a budget Satnav and have seen several RAC units in my limited budget range.

Both the 1100 and the 315 seem to fit the bill, and a recognised brand of RAC is quite comforting (been a member for 20 odd yrs with no complaints!).

However, whilst I know you get what you pay for, are RAC satnav units generally reliable and good value for money, or should I use my £80 budget elsewhere?

Since I bought my 200, I haven't regretted it. I find it invaluable for not only the driving aspect, but also for walking around areas I am not familiar with. In fairness, I have friends who have other makes, and when we compare the functions, and they all have features unique to themselves, but the 200 does all I want it for.

Welcome to the site Timbo, you will see that Halfords and Argos are selling sat-navs at half price just now.
So you can get a bargain if you shop around. I have a 200 and as Rolebama says, it does just what I need it to, so I am happy with it, good luck;)

Seems like a reasonable bet, but I've also been told the Navigon units that are 1/2 price in Halfords at the mo are alright as well.

Can anyone tell me if there's much difference between the RAC 1100 and 315 models?

Just popped down to Halfords and looked at the 1100 for £70. The young lad there didn't want to show me it and kept trying to push me onto either a Garmin or TomTom for £110. When I asked him what extra I'd be getting for £40, he couldn't come up with a lot, although the RAC did seem a bit more fiddly with the menus!

Aye! but that's not all that bad, at least with the RAC one you know that you get safety camera updates free, and the New Road updates are reasonably priced as well, compared to some of the others;)

There is an option to set up the touch screen on the 200 I have, which makes it a little easier. As a demo model, it has probably not been calibrated.

Rolebama, can you tell me more about that, as I would like to try that out on mine.

I must admit I don't use our much, as my wife is basically house bound these days, so I use it even when I don't need it, just to keep it active.

Smudger, when you first turn it on, on the blue screen, press Settings, then Calibrate on the next screen. Follow on-screen instruction. Makes it easier when using your finger as opposed to the stylus.
