Mine acorsa 1.3 diesel has coped fairly well, as good as a 4x4. Just my errors let it down!!
Your car in the snow/ice

Basically how has your car performed from A to B in the current conditions. Plenty of skids? Unable to set off?

I have a FWD diesel, and I have not had any problems. I live in a cul-de-sac on a slight gradient, and unfortunately, any snow always gets compacted to ice, but I do smile at some of my neighbour's antics.

My car too is a Front wheel drive diesel; medium sized MPV.
No problems. Appropriate speeds, no sudden manoeuvres or speed changes, and high enough gear used to prevent wheel-spin.
Back in the mid-50's I drove daily between Leicester and Coventry in worse conditions than we get now. -
Snow and ice
No, I've had no problem setting off, and I do NOT skid (unless I want to!:D)
My current car is a VW Passat Highline and I have had no problems whatsoever with it - apparently it has something called ESP which would control the traction if I gave it half a chance - which I don't, I was taught to drive properly in conditions worse than this, but more importantly I know what I CAN'T do.
I'm glad you've had no problems, but having had LandRovers for many years I can tell you that your assertion that your little Corsa is as good as a 4-wheel drive is a sad delusion, I'm afraid. -
My approach too. I have a VW Touran which also has the ESP facility. The only time it sometimes flashes on is when I happen to have stopped with one of my front wheels on a bit of white road marking in wet/slippery conditions. -
Mines a Volvo S40....been really good till today. Wont start....copes well on the road as its a heavy car.

I had great fun today in my wee Modus spinning all around the car park at Lidl, which was empty, as everyone seemed scared to go into it?
Got my shopping done, and got out of the car park no bother, just rocked in 2nd gear until the wheels got a grip on the wee upward slope;) -
There are lockups at the top of my cul-de-sac, which are accessed down a slight ramp. Some of the lockups are used by a local builder and today three of his vans turned up. Unfortunately, they all drove into the area leaving themselves no room to turn around, so had no alternative but try to reverse up the ramp. I gave them long enough to work up a good sweat trying to manhandle one of them out, then did the decent thing and pulled one out giving the others room to manouevre. Very worthwhile, as they sent a lad round this afternoon who cleared the snow and ice off the garden path. :)

I am a lone lady driver and would like any comments regarding the safety of the roads or whatever.planning to return home on Sunday early afternoon.
Much appreciated

In the 60's I had a Cortina, and lived on the brow of a hill, with a substantial incline from both directions. Once the snow had compacted into an icy sheet, it was hopeless.
We had solid fuel then, and used to spread old cinders onto our drives. If enough got onto the road, getting to the top did sometimes become managable, otherwise it was a case of the car staying at the bottom of the hill until the thaw came. -
My daughter has just reminded me of having the kids bouncing up and down in the boot to get my old Zephyr up the incline outside the house.
