Ford Focus shuddering on acceleration - MAF issue

  • piffmunday's Avatar
I have a 2002 ford focus 1.8 zetec, a couple of week ago I got is serviced, just the oil, air filter and fuel filter. I went on holiday so never drove it straight after, a couple of day after returning from holiday I noticed power issues. Now when I put the accelerator down by more that 25% - 50% the car stutters and shakes like it doesnt have enough petrol or air.

We assumed that the MAF Sensor was broken so replaced it, this didnt solve the problem.

    Edit:
I have noticed that we you first start it from cold when u accelerate away in the first 30 seconds it is ok and will let you pull away quickly. It will then slow down.

Any ideas would be much appreciated

Breaking down under load sounds like the coil which is a big problem on the Focus. Check the plugs are the right ones for your car and that the leads are okay too.

Have replaced the leads, is there a way to check the coil.

    Thanks

No, only by substitution. It is however, this car's biggest weakness. You can get them almost anywhere now but cheaper aftermarket ones are not as reliable as the original Ford part. Depends on how much you want to spend.
