Absolutely nothing wrong with Rovers. If you are looking for a 200, 400, 25 or 45 with the 1.4 16 valve engine (known as the 'K' series) then there really are just a couple of common faults.
The first, as most know, is head gasket failure. If this is repaired properly then it won't give trouble for a very long time.
The second fault is that the key fobs pack in. However, you can actually bypass the imobiliser very easily (its in the handbook) so it isn't a major problem. The ex-Rover dealer near me sells the fobs for £40+vat and you can get them coded quite easily.
There aren't many Honda engined ones left now with a sensible mileage on them.
The 2.0 litre turbo diesel is a relatively fast and very economical car and pretty reliable. It also has a low insurance rating and in my view, the best bet.

A mate of mine has one with the Honda engine in it, and he has had it for years and never had any problems with it:cool:

On a purely personal note, a friend bought a 600 diesel, and got rid of it very quickly because it was so noisy. So, if you do go for a diesel, make sure you road test it before you buy.
The only other thing to watch out for I think is the self-adjusting clutch cable. If fitted incorrectly, can cause premature clutch wear.

I don't mind any of the Rover 200 series, the 400 series, Rover 25 and the Rover 75, idealy i would like the mark 2 Rover 200 series

The 200 is brilliant they drive excellent, I have never seen a worn out K series yet.

yeah my only tip is, if you buy one with a 16v k-series engine, make sure the head gasket has been changed (with paperwork to prove) using the upgraded head gasket, because if it hasnt gone/blown, it will at some point, once done, it should be ok

Of course you should buy a Rover.

Rover, the British Company, has now been gone for 11 years.
You would think due to the company now under Administration parts would be hard to find or expensive, NO.
There are many, many MG Rover based garages across the country and many MG Rover Forums where you can find help, advice and cheap (ish) parts!
Rust? Well that depends on what Rover you were thinking of buying! The Rover 25 has a weak-spot for rust near its right headlight; it isn't usually that much. The Rover 45 has a similar problem - but nothing to worry about! The Rover 75 is a very well built car and we had one from 2003 - 2016, unfortunately we sold it to a garage due to us wanting a new car. (Great Car and Pretty Cheap British Luxury!)
The only thing that wasn't that great on the 2.0 litre v6 is that is drains fuel.

    Hope this was helpful,

    Kieran
