Driving Licence DVLA help

Letter MP has sent to DVLA reiterates everything that I've said & sent them, then ends
'I am not quite sure what has happened here but something is clearly amiss. I would therefore be grateful if you would undertake to make some urgency enquiries into the matter and clarify the situation so that I can advise my constituent accordingly.'

This could be a good week for me, or a really bad week for me!

Let's hope so. The Help Hire Centre rang again this morning, have explained that I still haven't heard anything from DVLA. They will call me Thursday now for a up date.

I take it you are still waiting.......... Still all crossed up here.

    Hope it's not too painful!

Yep, still waiting, can't believe it! Girl in MP office said if she hasn't received anything by middle of next week she will chase. She did say the DVLA is a big organisation so these things take a while. Not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing it taking this long. I sent my letter 2 weeks ago, though we have had a bank holiday in between.

Make sure that you send all your letters at least recorded delivery. Depending on importance of contents, the extra cost of registered letter may be worthwhile. The proof of receipt will spike their denial guns, and probably keep them alert.

Yes, I sent my letter to the DVLA with copies of paperwork in, recorded delivery. Not sure if MP sent their letter recorded. If I have to send any original documents then I will send these Special Delivery

The DVLA have sent a letter of acknowledgment to my MP office, at least that is something. More than they I have sent to me so far.

Im guessing you passed your test a few years ago? When you could either send off your license straight away or wait and do it yourself! For those that dont know. You now get your license taken off of you (paper and photocard) and then get sent out a full one. But a few years ago, you could do this or have the test certificate and send this off at a later date and then recieve a full license. I think it cost you to get a fulll one for some reason?
In any case you should have a full license! so hopefully the DVLA will sort this out and issue you with one!

Yes, I passed in late 1998, when you sent off the test certificate yourself, hence why I only have a photocopy of my test pass as the original was sent to DVLA (their policy not to return documents). It was then the beginning of 1999 when I sent off the right sized photocopy of a photo that they required (had sent one too large). They say they never recevied my appplication, but they had to have recevied my application to ask for further information. Plus the girl who told me I only had a provisional licence said I would have recevied a letter 6 months after my application saying I hadn't applied for full licence, I never received this letter, but that is because I had applied for full licence.
I really hope your right & the DVLA do sort this out for me.

Only for a moment! This is only an acknowledgement letter, no good news yet! Been three weeks now.

Three weeks........ How are you managing? Have you reverted to provisional licence driving, or are you gambling? Hm better not answer that I suppose.
Anyway it is rotten service, but I think you have done all you can, just the waiting left.
In the mean time, have you thought about taking up watching grass grow?
  • Ronnie1234's Avatar
Yes it was three weeks today I sent my letter.
MP sent their letter a week last Friday and got a letter of acknowledgment yesterday.
Managing - sleepless nights & stress! Though there is absolutley nothing I can do.
Now we have another bank holiday, which means more delays. Should hear something next week now I hope!

Still waiting a response! Hopefully the saying 'no news is good news' is true in this instance.

I think, maybe I could! Though the worry, stress & lack of sleep cannot be good for me! Four weeks on Saturday since they received my letter. Hope MP gets a response soon.

Not a good response from DVLA.

Now have a solicitor looking at it.

Back again, have you had something from the DVLA? If so did you update your MP. Or have you just lost interest in the growing grass?

The DVLA have still not responded to my letter.

They have only responded to my MPs letter so far!

Have you any idea what was in that letter they sent to your MP?
  • Ronnie1234's Avatar
They basically say, they cannot vary their rules for personal circumstances. They confirm that I had indeed passed my test, but there in no evidence to confirm receipt of a valid application to claim entitlement within the 2 years.
Their records show that on 2 March 1999 & 10 May 2000, two applications were returned to me as they were incomplete, it follows that they have not issued me with a licence showing full car entitlement.

But had I received those requests for further information, I would have answered them. I have a copy of the first letter they sent in October 1998 requesting a different size photo, so it's not like I haven't kept hold of information.

I take it you have no way of proving that you sent the revised photo.
If the MP is not interested in pushing a bit more you certainly will need the legal guidance. Sorry it has eventually worked out this way. Best of luck.

No record of me sending it. Am surprised I had copy of what I had sent, from so long ago!

The MP hasn't offered further advice/help. Probably a lot busier with other things at present.

Someone has said that if the DVLA has said I need to re-take tests, it's very unlikely they will change their minds now.
But I am still having a solicitor look over this, the solicitor is experienced with motor related incidents so he should be able to advise if I can fight this or not

    Good luck with it all.

It might just be worth E-mailing MP ‘can he think of any other approach’ and ‘how can the minister be contacted? Though consult with your solicitor before contacting minister.

It’s often not, what you know but who you know...............Too often...........

    .

Have just e-mailed girl in MP office to see if there is any other approach they think I can take, or anyone else I can contact

It may be worthwhile asking your MP to forward a complaint to the Parliamentary Ombudsman.
(I will say, however, that in my case it turned out to be a waste of time as the Ombudman's Office sent out a 'draft' of their findings which was full of inaccuracies, which although I challenged in the 'draft', were not to my knowledge amended in their Final Report.)

Am waiting on MP office to see if they can offer further assistance.

In the meantime, Solicitor has called to say he will be drafting a letter tomorrow for my perusal, before sending.
