    Hello there,
Hope someone can help me. ive got a renault clio 1.2 16v dynamique 51 plate. its got just over ten thousands miles on it. problem ive got with it:
When im pulling up to a junction or set of traffic lights the heat managment light comes on think thats what it is. orange light with squigly lines on it. when the light comes on car does not idle it missfires and stalls. only happens when coming to a junction and stopping. never comes on when just driving along. No loss of power when driving normally either. ive had it put on a computer and its saying its the map sensor, bought a new map sensor but didnt fix problem. took the car to renault its self they said the wiring to the map sensor was loose so they tightened them. car was fine for a day but now its still stalling. Ive had this problem 4 about 5 months now. Ive been told to cheack the fuel filter. Has anyone got any more suggestions. Please help its driving me mad.

If you have got the dealer involved then take it back the wiring is obviously the fault.

The reson the MAP sensor was 'blamed' was not because of the sensor itself - it was doing its job properly - but as Dazid says, the wiring on these cars is the worst anywhere. If you search this forum you will find literally dozens of posts on Clio 1.2 misfires and cutting out.
The fault is almost always the wiring loom. Ask for your money back for the MAP sensor as they are not cheap and demand Renault put it right. When an engine stalls or cuts out the back pressure causes the MAP sensor to flag a problem because the engine has stopped unexpectedly.

I know the wiring is shocking! Map sensor only cost me £20 so im not to bothered about the price. I went to renault and they quoted me £100 to have it put on the computer which i cant afford. A local garage here where i stay do diagnostics for £30 plus vat. I will take it there first chance i get. My car also smells really badly of petrol when the light comes on is this anything to do with it aswell?

is it a fuel smell or a rotten egg smell as an overfuelling engine will make the cat smell, the overfuelling would probably be down to the MAP sensor wiring issue

Renault MAP sensors cost over £100 so how you paid just £20 is a mystery. If you have fitted an aftermarket one, this could also be a problem.
Overfuelling can be caused by the coolant temperature sensor giving a reading of say -5c when the engine is actually at 90c. This will not show as a fault code on a scanner so you need to check in the live data menu.

i got the map sensor for £20 coz i know a few folk. The smell is a fuel smell. My car is in at a local garage the now. theyve had it on the computer saying its the map sensor. before i took it there tho an engine light came on. the garage phoned me yesterday at said it was the map sensor and if it wasnt that it was the ecu. I know ecus are very expensive. i dont know what to.

As we have said, its the wiring that's the problem. The map sensor may be ok but has the garage checked the live data in the scanner? Have they revved it up and watched the map sensor readings or disconnected a vacuum pipe to see if it reads correctly?
Before going any further, disconnect the plugs from the ECU and lubricate wirh WD40 and refit. If this works for a short time, it proves the wiring loom is defective.
