Vauxhall Astra 2006 1.4 petrol poor power
-
My 2006 1.4 Astra petrol has lost power, took it to the dealers and was told that two cylinders are out and would cost 800 + to repair it, I don' believe this as the car was going good using no oil and has only 40k miles on it,there is no blow back from the oil filler or dipstick,I am at a loss with electronics and have no idea what could be wrong cept an electrical fault, anyone able to help as 800 for a 12 year old is a bit stiff.

Did they say why the two cylinders were out? Two adjacent cylinders out normally indicates a blown head gasket.

It won’t necessarily overheat unless it has blown into the water jacket. Take it somewhere else for a detailed inspection but be prepared to pay for that.

A simple compression test may well prove if its a head gasket fault. The car is now 13 years old and these are known for gasket failures. A dealer is always going to charge you much more so a local garage should be able to do this for half this price.
It may not be a head gasket fault and may be a sensor failing which should have been found during a diagnostic check. If there is a head gasket leakage this will change the readings from the oxygen sensors.
I'd take it to a Bosch Service Centre (nationwide so one near you) for a diagnosis and cost to repair.
