Ferrari 458 Italia modified 0-60 in 3 seconds

Just came across this awesome video for the Ferrari 458 italia. Yes, the one that was renowned for bursting into flames. This tuning company, Oakley Design, have modified one of these 458's so it's lighter, has more power, and has more downforce too. All in all it means a 0 - 60 time of 3 seconds flat. That must be quicker than an Enzo Ferrari which would cost twice as much. It looks much nicer than the Enzo too.

    What do you think?

    Video can be seen here:

As a track car fine, otherwise why bother.

That could be said of any supercar though, modified or not. Surely anything beyond a Ford Focus diesel is essentially pointless?

I think it is a game boys play, mine is bigger than yours...
In a racing situation speed does not really matter, it’s the quickest driver that the drivers are interested in.

    Speed Matters

Of course speed matters when racing. Formula 1 teams spend an absolute fortune to get the smallest power advantages from their cars. A bad driver in the fastest car stands a better chance of winning than a better driver in a slower car.

F1 history will tell you otherwise but I was talking from the driver’s perspective. Yes he would like the quickest car but if his car is dramatically faster than the rest the victory is not as sweet. In general drivers who race will race in anything as long they have a chance. Absolute speed has no meaning, it is relative speed that counts, in my, perhaps distorted view, F1 has lost its way pursuing absolute speed. There is a section of motor sport devoted to this - Drag racing - personally I find this boring but this is the direction F1 is going... A racing car that cannot stalk and then overtake is just a useless toy.

Now that's something that I do agree upon. I was at Silverstone in 1987 and was stood on a relatively cheap part of the circuit which was very fortunately just by Stowe corner where Nigel Mansell overtook Nelson Piquet just 2 laps from the end of the race after chasing him for nearly the whole race gradually closing the gap on each and every lap. Nigel won the race and it was one of the most awesome and exciting experiences of my life. It feels like those moments are lost forever when I watch the latest F1 "processions" sorry I mean races.

Out of interest, I'm sure I read somewhere that there may be a 458 series where everyone has the same cars. Or have I dreamed that?

Yes, I thought there was talk of a series with common engines in F1 type cars with development effectively frozen but I am not sure what happened in the end, I think F1’s TV contracts seek to limit other motor sport’s exposure. I often wonder why Karting does not get TV coverage, I think with good coverage it would be a TV winner.
