RAC1100 doesn't recognise postcode

  • bminney's Avatar
    Hi
Just bought the RAC1100 from Halfords. Its a model number that doesn't appear anywhere else apart from Halfords. I assume it is rebadged but any idea what the original model number is?

I went to use it for the first time today. I entered my work address post code BN1 *** and it wouldn't recognise it. It kept offering me BN11 ***.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Many thanks

Hi bminney, welcome to the site, I got my sat-nav from Halfords as well, but its a 220,(I think)
Have you loaded the Disc that came with it, as it gives all the instructions on that, a lot more than you get in the small book.
There is a whole section on how to use it in there, but if you still cant get it working, call the number on the back of it, they will help you out;)

RAC 1100 not recognising post code

    Thanks.
It came with no disc or manual (apart from a leaflet). I managed to download the manual, which is comprehensive. I did manage to download the safety camera update as well (after a struggle with Route66) but I now have two files on my unit. I need to investigate that a bit more.

I did see on another thread a similar problem and the poster was advised to use the address rather than the post code which suggests some problem with the map.
I'm still curious about the model number though.
    Cheers

I too had a problem with a particular BN1 1** postcode. Not just on the satnav. Live maps, Google maps, multi maps and Auto Route all failed to recognize it. It was for the Poole Registry Office, where I attended a wedding two weeks ago. Put the address in the satnav, and got there no problem.
As an aside to this,if you are looking for somewhere in the Poole area, I got all day parking in the Stadium Car Park for £2.50 rather than the £6.50 some of the car parks charge.

I would have thought that the model would have been required when you D/Loaded the instruction manual
I have never tried using the post code on my one as the street name has always been enough for me.
Glad to hear that you managed to install the latest camera update, as ever since my last attempt to do that I have been too afraid to try it:confused:

    manual

I think there is just the one manual for the software on these units.

When I look at the unit under Extras it does show 2 safety camera updates (I used the Route66 software, which although complicated to install seems ok).

I assume I can use Route66 to delete one of these files but I'm not that brave.

I used it a few times last week and when 'messing' around with various view options it crashed several times with a Windows Exception message.

I'm still curious to know why this particular model is not listed anywhere on the RAC site.

    Poole?

Do you mean Brighton? BN1 1PS is the registry office at Brighton.

And Brighton is a nightmare to park. Best get the train (can i say that in a RAC forum)!

Apologies, confusion reigned. I misread your postcode as BH1 1**.
(Will now go stand in the corner for ten minutes.)
