Second-Hand Toyota Celica
Used Toyota Celica
While the Celica was retired in 2007, it still lives on in the used marketplace. The original generation dates back to the 1970s in Japan, with the first Celica arriving on our shores in 1985. Toyota wanted a high-tech sporty car that resonated with the UK marketplace, which the fifth, sixth, and seventh generation managed. Each offers new styling and features, with the latter generations being the ones to go for.
What You Get
Fifth and sixth generation Celicas are well equipped for their respective ages, but the seventh generation is the best of the bunch. You'll get stylish alloy wheels, remote central locking and a steering wheel that had a leather trim. (Optional extras include a spoiler and climate control, so look out for those.) The interior is well-designed, but taller passengers may find the rear to be slightly cramped. There's no doubt that it's a striking car, though do be careful when buying older models.
How it Drives
It may be a front-wheel-drive coupe, but it reportedly has the best handling in its admittedly small market segment. Even the base 140bhp model is a fun drive, hitting 60mph in just 8.7 seconds. Older models provide affordable fun, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a cheaper alternative. If you need a sporty car for a cheap price, you've found the right model.
