Second-Hand Jeep Grand Cherokee
Used Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Jeep Grand Cherokee was first introduced in the UK in 1995 and production continued until 2011. Originally, just one model, the Limited, was available which came with a 4.0-litre six-cylinder engine. A more affordable version known as the Laredo was added in 1997, as was a turbo diesel model. The Mk2 Jeep Grand Cherokee appeared in the spring of 1999. A new 4.0-litre V6 engine was still an option as was a powerful 4.7-litre V8. In 2005, the Jeep Grand Cherokee was repositioned in the market, becoming a more affordable choice. The engine was scaled down to a 3.0-litre diesel V6 while the steering and suspension were greatly improved. In 2006, the flagship SRT-8 model was introduced and packed a massive 420 bhp.
What You Get
A used Mk1 Grand Cherokee looks great on the outside and has the interior to match. The standard specification for the Limited was feature-packed and included alloy wheels, a ZF four-speed automatic gearbox, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, cruise control, metallic paint, speed-sensitive power steering, an immobiliser and an alarm. The Mk2 added more head and leg room and several little touches. The third generation boasts improved aerodynamics, a more rigid chassis and more room for passengers.
How it Drives
Second-hand Jeep Grand Cherokees are good off-road performers and the 4.0-litre V6 is pretty rapid reaching sixty miles per hour in just 9.9 seconds on its way to a maximum speed of 112mph. The V8 is faster but extremely rare. Most used second-generation Jeep Grand Cherokees are likely to be the improved 4.0-litre diesel engine which will reach sixty in 10.9 seconds and top out at 117 miles per hour. Mk3 Grand Cherokees have vastly improved steering and suspension compared to the Mk2 and are a much better drive both on and off-road.
