Oil Light Seat Ibiza
I have a 2003 1.4l Seat Ibiza and have noticed that when turning the ignition to the 'on' position a red oil light and immobilizer symbol illuminate in the centre square panel on the dash. These both light up for a few seconds and go out when the engine turns over (along with all of the warning lights in the circular speedo section of the dash)
Looking at the manual this appears to be normal for the immobilizer symbol however it's a bit vague regards the oil light, it does say that it will illuminate briefly with the ignition but doesn't say what colour it should be (mine is red).
To be clear the light only illuminates for a few seconds in red and then goes out when the engine starts (so its only on for about 2-3 seconds in total), it doesn't come on at all when driving (I have found lots of posts re the light coming on with an audiable warning but this has never happened to me).
Oil levels are all fine and the car drives fine too.
So my question is basically is it normal?
Thanks for any help!
That is quite normal. It will illuminate when the ignition is on and will go off when the engine has built up its oil pressure, which is usually within a second of starting.
If it illuminates when driving it will probably be accompanied with an alarm and you should stop and turn off the engine immediately if possible, although this would be a very rare occurrence.
