RAC Day Insurance protects your car with pay as you go Comprehensive cover for any 24 hour period from 1 hour to 30 days as detailed in your policy schedule.

Significant and unusual exclusions or limitations

Your policy excludes some situations. Please refer to your policy document for full details but the most significant or unusual exclusions are outlined below. Your policy excludes or limits the following:

  • The first part of any claim - this is known as the "excess" (see Section 1). Our excess levels vary - please see your insurance schedule for details.
  • The excess applies to claims for windscreen replacement or repair (see Section 1)
  • Loss or damage arising from theft while the ignition keys of your car have been left in or on your car (see Section 1)
  • Loss of use, reduction in value, wear and tear, or mechanical, electrical or computer breakdowns, failures or breakages (see Section 1)
  • Loss of value following a repair (see Section 1)
  • Confiscation or requisition or destruction by or under order of any government or public or local authority (see Section 1)
  • Damage to tyres by braking or by punctures, cuts or bursts (see Section 1)
  • Loss or damage directly caused by pressure waves caused by aircraft or other flying devices travelling at, or above, the speed of sound (see Section 1)


Inappropriate use (see General exceptions)

We will not pay for any accident, injury, loss or damage that occurs while your car is being used for a purpose not shown under the "Description of use" section of your certificate of insurance or while it is being driven by any person not described in your certificate of insurance as entitled to drive.


Other insurance (see General Conditions)

The policy excludes liability if any incident leading to a claim is covered under any other insurance policy.

The customer and any other person who will drive must:

  • Are aged between 18 and 75 (the minimum age may vary depending on individual circumstances)

  • Hold a current, valid, full UK, EU, EEA, South African, Swiss, Australian or New Zealand driving licence, and have done so for at least 6 months (reduced to 3 months, if aged over 25)

  • Have a current permanent address as stated throughout this application (please note you may be asked to provide proof of residence in the event of a claim)

  • Have had no more than 2 fault claims in the last 3 years

  • Have no more than 9 penalty points and have had no disqualifications in the last 18 months

  • Have had no motoring offence in the last 3 years with the Conviction Offence Code prefixes DR, CD, DD, UT or DG

  • Have not been convicted in the last 5 years of any criminal offence including any pending prosecution or police enquiry

  • Have had no motoring offence in the last 6 months with the Conviction Offence Code prefix IN or CU80

Vehicle Criteria:

To qualify for short term insurance, the vehicle must:

  • be registered in Great Britain, Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man.
  • have a current market value of less than £75,000.
  • have no more than 8 seats (including the driver's).
  • not have been imported.
  • not be used for the carriage of goods or passengers for hire or reward.
  • not be used to carry hazardous goods (other than the carriage of less than 10kg of bottled gas, or 10 litres of flammable solvents in one container).
  • not be used or driven at any hazardous location.

Modifications to Vehicles

  • Vehicles fitted with manufacturer specified optional extras, fitted at the time of manufacture, are acceptable.
  • Vehicles modified to cater for a disabled driver or passenger are acceptable.
  • Vehicles that have undergone any post manufacturer 'after market fit' modification (cosmetic or performance related) are NOT ACCEPTABLE.
