Toyota has announced safety recalls covering three issues affecting some RAV4, Hilux, Yaris and Urban Cruiser models. 35,124 UK-registered vehicles are affected.

The potential problem areas are wiring in the airbag module, a seat rail spring and a steering column bracket.

There have no reports worldwide of any accidents, injuries or fatalities linked to these issues, but having been criticised for being slow to react in the past, the world's biggest carmaker employs a proactive approach to ensuring potential safety issues are addressed promptly.

Toyota is providing a prompt inspection and repair programme, at no charge to owners.
