Villa player faces crash charges

Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan has been charged with several driving offences after a collision on the M1 near Watnall.

Bannan, a Scotland international dubbed the Scottish Cesc Fabregas, was charged with driving with excess alcohol, failing to stop after a road accident, driving a motor vehicle without a licence and driving without due care and attention.

The case highlights the dangerous impact of traffic collisions on the future costs of car insurance premiums for the motorists concerned.

The 21-year-old, from Sutton Coldfield, was bailed to appear before Nottingham Magistrates' Court on November 25.

The charges concerned a single vehicle collision on the southbound carriageway at around 5.30am on Sunday October 23.

A man aged 20 who was arrested and bailed over the same incident will not face charges, said police.

Aston Villa Football Club declined to make any further comment.
