Upgrade for major Scottish motorway

Upgrade for major Scottish motorway

The A74 and M74 motorway in Scotland will receive £40 million worth of improvements over the next five years.

Over 80 miles of new road will be resurfaced - the equivalent to 200 football pitches - with the section between junction 22 Gretna and junction 12 Millbank to be upgraded.

Each day more than 30,000 vehicles use the carriageway, popular with those travelling between the border and the central belt.

Autolink, which has a contract with the Scottish Government's transport agency, Transport Scotland, will carry out the work, scheduled to begin at the end of June.

A spokesman for Transport Scotland and Autolink said: "This project is being delivered in several phases over the next five years.

"We are working closely with local communities to ensure they are kept abreast of these works as they are delivered."
