Coronation Street veteran Barbara Knox has been arrested after being pulled over for drink-driving.
Police confirmed the 80-year-old, who has played Rita Tanner in the soap for half a century, was held at a station in Knutsford, Cheshire, on suspicion of driving under the influence.
It is believed Mrs Knox went to the station after her daughter, Maxine Ashcroft, 56, had been arrested earlier for the same offence.
A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said: "Police stopped a car in Hollow Lane, Knutsford, and a 56-year-old woman from Gloucestershire was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
"An 80-year-old woman from Knutsford arrived at Knutsford police station and was also arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
"She was bailed pending further inquiries."
The Sun newspaper claims mother and daughter had been out for the afternoon and were pulled over as the ITV star was being driven home by Ms Ashcroft.
The paper said the actress confronted officers at the police station by saying: "Do you know who I am?".
Ms Ashcroft has been charged with driving while over the legal limit and will appear at Macclesfield Magistrates' Court on April 2. Her mother will answer bail on April 4.
A Coronation Street spokeswoman said the arrest was a personal matter.
